About Alyssa
Alyssa Schiffman is the Founder and Principal Consultant of BoardVision Consulting LLC, where she partners with nonprofit boards and executives to strengthen governance and elevate leadership communications.
With more than 20 years of experience across higher education, Jewish communal organizations, and nonprofits of all sizes, Alyssa has built a career at the intersection of boards and executive teams. As Chief Mission Officer at the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades, she aligned governance, communications, and strategy during a time of organizational transition. Prior to that, she was Secretary to the Board of Trustees at Barnard College and held senior governance roles at DePaul University. In every role, she has helped trustees and executives work together with greater clarity, confidence, and purpose.
Alyssa believes strong governance is the backbone of every high-performing nonprofit. Too often, boards and staff simply go through the motions — approving budgets, hearing activity reports, and electing trustees — without engaging in the deeper work of governance. To truly honor their mission, nonprofits must invest in their boards, foster meaningful engagement, and welcome the hard questions that lead to growth and accountability.
She also believes executive communication is more than messaging. It’s about telling a compelling story that inspires trust, alignment, and action. By combining these perspectives, Alyssa helps organizations modernize bylaws and policies, design and facilitate effective board retreats, and craft communications that move both staff and trustees forward with clarity and confidence.
When she’s not working with clients, Alyssa can often be found baking, hiking, and listening to Taylor Swift.
